We are all living life with different struggles. We are all navigating life, and though we travel our own paths, we encounter the same themes and realities under different circumstances. A tarot deck is representative of the spectrum of the human experience. Each card in tarot has a traditional meaning and each deck the creator’s interpretation of that meaning. Kaila Wilde uses her knowledge and interpretation of the tarot as a personal growth tool and to create an affirmative statement + note to keep us lifted and to remind us that we are not alone.

Card:
King of Cups
Affirmation:
My emotions do not control me; I control my emotions.
Reflection:
Learning how to experience emotions deeply without being possessed by them is a capability of the emotionally wise.
The King of Cups represents emotional control and the capacity to deeply experience an emotion (aka feel our feelings). When we deeply experience an emotion we fully acknowledge it by not hiding or running from how we feel. The goal should be for us to be able to honestly disclose however it is we are feeling - be it unhappy, disappointed, heartbroken, guilty or on the other end of the spectrum loved, forgiven, joyous, or worthy. Deeply experiencing our emotions also requires that we honor our emotions in the sense that we respect our feelings for what they are - nothing more and nothing less. This concept becomes much easier to implement when we grasp that every feeling we experience is temporary on some level. Ultimately, we have to learn how to navigate all emotions for some reason or another. Our emotions are always trying to teach, tell, or show us something and when we honor the emotion without possessing it that is how we feel it deeply.
In addition to deeply feeling our feelings, we must learn how to simultaneously control them. We do not have control of our emotions when we allow whatever feeling we are experiencing to make us act in a way that we typically would not act, is out of our character, or that we truly know isn’t right - so much so that later on we are not proud of our action or response. We have control of our emotions when we realize and process that we are experiencing a feeling (good or bad) yet not allow it to dictate how we move. It’s like we have to be able to say to ourselves, “Hey, I’m feeling [insert emotion] and it is making me want to act in this particular way. But I know it is not me. It is the feeling I’m experiencing that is making me want to do this thing or act in this way.” We all have a responsibility to figure out and acquire the tools necessary to operate with a certain level of emotional intelligence and control. And I wholeheartedly believe that when we do, we reach a state of emotional peace that surpasses all understanding.
Application:
The most important thing is accepting that emotions are temporary and allowing yourself to feel them, talk about them, and let them come and let them go.
