Baring My Soul is a category of writing where I share a personal piece of my life’s journey in an effort to do my part in maintaining connection because when we share our stories, we let someone know that they are not alone.
Earlier this week in prayer, a meditation crossed my mind that I could not get out of my head or heart. I have been repeating this prayer for myself and others since. So I want to explore what the prayer means for myself - and for you as well. The prayer is
God,
open my heart, clean my heart, and fill my heart.
Open my heart
When I ask God to open my heart, I am asking God to keep me connected and in the flow.
An open heart is equal parts receptive, loving, and courageous. Guarding out hearts is one thing but we should not close them. An open heart is the best space to receive every single lesson and blessing that God has for us. We don’t want to live cold lives. We don’t want to be closed or shut off to healing, peace, or connection. That being said, we have to be intentional not to let particular experiences and situations block the receiving of lessons and blessings by closing our hearts.
Clean my heart.
When I ask God to clean my heart, I am asking God to remove any and everything that is not a reflection of my highest self.
None of us are perfect. Truly recognizing and internalizing that truth puts one in the position to better prepare for the desires that bring confusion and chaos into our lives. A prayer for a clean heart is our reminder to make the choices that keep our hearts clear and clean. A prayer for a clean heart is a time for us to feel convicted about the things in our lives that we need to release. A prayer for a clean heart is a call for our spirits and soul to be restored and made whole.
Fill my heart.
When I ask God to fill my heart, I am asking God to place within me all that I need to spread love, life, peace, etc.
Our hearts are filled by God everyday or every time we somehow deepen our connection and relationship with The Creator. If we believe that God is love then we must carry that energy with us as often as humanly possible and we have to lean into God to provide it. We ask for our hearts to be filled because we know that a full heart knows how to speak life over and after death. We know that a full heart is the sacred space from which all God energy flows (love, life, peace, etc.).
May your heart be opened, cleaned, and filled. Amen.
Much love.
